Good question.
Zehrs tapes are receipts from Zehrs, a grocery store chain owned by Loblaws and unique to southern Ontario. From 1975 to 2013, various charities in the area would accept donations of "Zehrs tapes" that they could then cash in for money to help their cause. I believe $450 in purchases = $1 from Zehrs, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up when you've got a school full of kids bringing them in.
"Remember to bring in your Zehrs tapes" became just another catchphrase added to my childhood lexicon, along with "Do ya wanna go fasterrr????" and "Boots wit da furrr (wit da furrr!)"
The Zehrs tapes program ended in 2013 and the concept has since faded to obscurity. But I still remember it.
I remember a lot of useless things.
And that's pretty much what is blog is about.
